My family and I have made a list of all the ideas we still wish to accomplish this summer. As we shop for baking, science and art projects, it is hard not to be distracted by the back to school supplies now on display.
What are your plans in August?

SUMMER DAZE: Activity Ideas
http://www.allthedaze.com/summer.html
You and your kids will enjoy making Bottle Rockets! The idea is that you put water in the plastic bottle (I have seen this done with small bottles and larger bottles), and then you pressurize it by using a bicycle pump or a floor pump and off it flies.
Children can have fun decorating their rockets too!
Another simple idea is to cut the bottles into "slices" (or rings) and then make a bracelet by embellishing with stickers, glitter, markers,what have you. They're flexible and if you need to, you can cut through the bracelet and then expand it so that the child's hand can slip through.
My new activity book SUMMER DAZE is coming soon!

But It's Light Out!
====================
With your child, look at a map of Northern Canada or Alaska. Find some locations where daylight lasts nearly 24 hours in the summer. Ask your child to imagine living in a place where the sun stayed out until very late at night. Together, write and illustrate a humorous story about a young child who doesn't want to go to bed until it is dark outside. Include the solutions that the family comes up with to help the youngster go to sleep.

Moments at My House:
Teach your children how to make basic stitches and/or how to use simple fabric joining techniques, e.g. lacing, stitching, stapling, gluing, taping. Throughout the week my children experimented with different fabrics. They tried techniques such as gathering, scrunching, pleating, and folding. We used transfer paper to transfer drawings onto the fabric and then to cut out the shapes from fabric. Try to use an applique. How will they use the idea of cutting a shape out of fabric and placing another fabric behind it? How will they embellish the surface further using beads, threads, other materials?
